Quality management that stands up to review

ISQM 1 replaced the old one-size-fits-all quality control model with something closer to a risk-based system tailored to each practice — which means every firm’s quality management system has to be built, not copied from a template.

We support audit and assurance practices building or refreshing their ISQM 1 system, along with ISQM 2 engagement quality review processes, root cause analysis, and the monitoring cycle that keeps it current.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do we need an ISQM 1 system if we’re a small practice?
Yes — ISQM 1 applies to firms performing audits or reviews regardless of size, though the system should be scaled to your practice’s size and risk profile, not copied from a Big-4 template.
What’s the difference between ISQM 1 and ISQM 2?
ISQM 1 covers the firm’s overall system of quality management. ISQM 2 specifically covers engagement quality reviews — the independent review performed on higher-risk engagements before the opinion is issued.
How long does it take to implement an ISQM 1 system?
A first-time implementation typically takes 8–12 weeks, covering risk assessment, policy design, and documentation, followed by an embedding period as the system runs in practice.
Can you support us through a regulatory inspection or peer review?
Yes. We help practices prepare for ICAP, SOCPA or other regulatory inspections, including mock reviews and remediation of identified gaps.
Do you help update an existing quality control system to ISQM?
Yes — this is one of the more common engagements, converting a legacy ISQC 1 system into a proper risk-based ISQM 1 structure.
